Can a person swap out x300 and x308 tail lights? Are they interchangeable with no modifications ?

Have just upgraded my 95 x300 with a set form a X308, I had to add the additional hole for the extra globe not used by the x308 but besides from that they were an exact fit change over. My motivation for the upgrade was the chrome trimming on the newer set, as mine had noticeably faded and chipped

 

Is yours a Sport or were the specs in Australia different such that you received the "XJR" tail lights with the red trim?

No not a Sports model just the XJ6 (X300), although my insurance company insists on calling it a series 2 1995 XJ6 ?. As far as I'm aware it came out with the red trim on the tail lights and the Chrome was reserved for the Sovereign or Daimler. Happy to be corrected

 

Probably another regional variance.... seems to be a lot of those! Or maybe the 3.2 got the "XJR" lights? Since we didn't get the 3.2 in the US, maybe that's a difference too.

Yes is interesting, From what I can tell I also have the Dimple type wheels that I assumed were only offered on the sports model. Although I have also been told there were variants of the dimple wheels as well.
There appears to be a lot of lap over on the different models although as I have just changed the tail lights a previous owner may have upgraded the wheels.
