Default XJ6 - EGR valve

Hi all,

'97 XJ6, getting EGR check engine.
Gas mileage also not as it used to be too.

1. Is there a recommended EGR brand for replacement?
[Standard Motor Products, Airtex, or ACDelco]?

2. Should I also replace the gasket too?

Thanks

Try taking it out and cleaning it first, that's all mine needed.

Thanks RJ.

Any recommended cleaners?
Also, just spray through the bottom hole?

Best regards,

Minassie

It's been a while, but I believe I had to scrape the buildup out, then clean with acetone or other solvent. Hopefully, another member will come in with a suggestion.

Ive used oven cleaner for the diesel egr. It's made to dissolve coal soot and did just that. Read warning label though
