hi got to change 2 front springs on m7 xj6 and need to borrow spring compressor tool if anyone got one to lend please

Is that Ipswich UK? Unfortunately, I haven't got the Jag specific one, and the ones I have are not up to the task...

Hi baille-evans1950,

Below is a link to a photo album showing how I built my own spring compressor based on various home-brew designs created by others. A lot of guys have just used a stack of heavy washers with an O.D. of about 2-1/4 inches instead of the large steel ball I used, based on a design by Win at the Jag-Lovers forum. Threaded 20mm threaded rod and high-strength dowel pins can be purchased from many industrial supply houses:

i just did mine with threaded rods. 4 pieces of m8 - 1.25 x 12" with 2 washers and 1 nut per bolt. remove one of the spring pan bolts and replace with one of the threaded rods, do this for 4 of the spring pan bolts. then start lowering the pan slowly. its very time consuming but works if you cant find the correct part.
