They where also aiming the XJR6 as a BMW M5 competitor and needed to be able to keep up with them on the autobahns also a more relaxed pace at cruising as well I would say
definitely no good for regular driving
Go the 3.58 N/A gears

Really? Not sure if I'd go quite that far.

I'd say that the 3.27 is perfectly OK for regular driving. But if you want a bit more pep and response, go with the 3.58 gears. It's not like the 3.58 diff transforms the car into something entirely different.

Cheers

Interesting for sure. Well, hopefully I won't have to worrym about rebuilding my differential for many many 1000s of miles yet. But if/when I do, I'll surely keep this in mind.

It seems as the 94 xjs 3.54 diff is a little different, it seems as the companion flange, I believe that is the correct name, is different. On my xjr the flange has three bolts, one bolt at the end of each mounting point. On the xjs, it has four bolts within a circle. How do I overcome this problem, any thoughts and or advice is greatly appreciated. Thanxs

Funny name companion flange till I looked it up

I always called them yokes

All you need to do is take the Companion Flange/Yoke of your diff and fit it to The XJS diff

Have a close look at the Centres do they look the same if so just change them over you will need to get a new crush tube and re set the pinion bearing load pressure may as well go for a new seal while its apart

This guy Differential Pinion Pre-Load Adjustment. made a home made tool for tightening the load pressure have a read it enlightened me with my diff rebuild

Might give you a few ideas if you are attempting it yourself

I would just order a crush tube http://www.motorcarsltd.com/jaguar-xj6-1994-differential-pinion-sleeve/
and seal Pinion Seal - MotorcarsLtd.com if you are going that far probably wouldnt hurt to chnge the oil as well

Then its just an install check your rear diff cage body mounts as well you have to pull the whole cage out
Its a pretty big job you only want to do it once

The yokes are interchangeable, but the saga continues. The diff case on the 94 xjs 3.54 is a little different then the case on my 95xjr6. It seems there are additional mounting points on the case of the xjr6 diff. Now, would it be possible to completely rebuilt my xjr6 diff with the ring and pinion from the xjs diff? just want to make sure before I drop my diff and buy the rebuild kit. Thanks all.

Bit of a pita that its not a straight swap though
the gears are the same but you will need to go to a diff guy that knows how to set pinion pre-load on jaguars they are a bit tricky
On the other you old 3.25 gears are a extremely popular swap with the XJS V12 3 speed auto crowd

that's how I got my diff swapped it with a NA diff which he then sold my diff gears to a customer with a 3 speed auto XJS so don't think your old gears are worth nothing
LOL
If you where in Australia I could sell your old diff tomorrow guy just emailed me about my old diff yesterday

The OEM differential you took out of your XJR was a limited slip differential. BTW.
