Exclamation 01 XJR Battery dead, keys won't open trunk

Hi, tried to review the posts for a solution but my car only has the 2 holes that hold the license plate on. Anyone have a pic or diagram where I can see where to jump it from under the hood or any other solution would be helpful!

There's a positive terminal on drivers side of the engine covered with a rubber cap. Jump leads from a 12v source, positive lead to this terminal, negative lead to good earth, chassis is best. If it doesn't work first time, look for a better earth connection.

Default Back seat fuse boxes

You can also jump it at fuse boxes under
back seat. The large black wire is POSITIVE and ground to brackets.

Default Positive Post and Key Hole

Probably a silly post, but I'm guessing the 1999 and 2001 are different in this respect? I've actually got a keyhole on the left of the XJR Emblem for the trunk.

And just for future, here is the Positive Post under the hood. I use this to connect a battery charger for my RC Airplanes and Heli's.

I always believed it did, but I don't see any wires leading to the suspension, so likely not???

If the underhood post does not work, you have some problem besides low battery. It is the positive lead. The chassis is the negative lead. Jumping there is exact;y like being on the battery.

Default Got it

Thanks to everyone for the help! Found the terminal and tried jumping it again. With a GOOD ground it roared to life. Next problem... ran it for 10 minutes then turned it off for 30 seconds hit the key again and it started running thru the diagnostics and died. Any ideas? Cables look new

The valet key, likely green, should not work in the trunk. The others should. If they don't, the lock is either broken, or your keys were all copied from the valet key.

My guess would be bad cable connection or bad battery, at least to start with since it'seasy to check. Even if the cables look good, I'd remove and clean them, then try to charge battery and see if that helps.

Charge and test the battery is a good start. Is the car's charging sytem working? BTW the license plate holes that you needed should be under a nice piece of what seems like black tape. They are where the lower license plate screws would screw into if it had them. Hard to see. You have to poke through the tape or peel it off. At least that's where my '98 VDP had them.

Super Sport, there should be a black, cone-shaped
cap over the shock towers if you had CATS. also
little wires running out. Maybe a previous owner
made the switch over to normal shocks.

Congrats on winning a hood liner!

Yeah, I'm excited about the hood liner, and no, I don't have those on my shocks.

As your battery was completely dead, the computers will have to re-learn everything, so get her running again, with preferably a NEW battery and go for a 30 minute drive, all should be good after that. These cars are particularly sensitive to partially discharged batteries and can throw up all sorts of error codes so just get a new battery and all should be good.
