Default 01 XJR running rough

Greetings,

I am fairly new to this forum. I recently bought a 2001 XJR and almost immediately had to take it to the dealer. The canister close valve was stuck shut and the car would no accept gas. I just got it back today and drove it home without issue. I put some gas in it and figured I was good for a little while, at least.

I just went out to start it up again and it was running really rough. When I put it in gear it wouldn't even creep. I disconnected the battery hoping to reset the electronics but the engine started with the same result. No check engine light has come on either time I started it up. When I try to rev the engine nothing happens.

I am letting the car sit for now hoping this was just a fluke, but in the meantime I would love to hear from the resident experts. Thanks.

I am no expert, but I would put a code reader on it to see if you have a pending code. Sometimes you will have a code that does not trigger a CEL right away. That is where I would start. I would also just look under the hood to see if there are any wires or hoses hanging around....like from packrat damage, or something similar.

Thanks for the advice. I don't have a code reader at my disposal yet so I can't check for pending codes. I did look under the hood and everything seems to be in order.

As a side note, which may or may not help in diagnosing the problem, the engine fires up smoothly but it quickly degrades to the rough idle I mentioned before.

Don't know where you are located, but in the US, Auto Zone and other parts houses will run an OBD scan for free.

This is a very late reply but I got the car back a few weeks ago and it turns out both fuel pumps were shot. One was just worn out and the other had its electrical components fried. A little over a $1000 repair.
