I have an 01 xjr i just had my trans replaced with a 60k trans. After the install i have no forward gears the place i bought trans from says he has no problem giving me my money back but he says it needs to be reflashed so the car can communicate with it. Can someone please let me know if this is true or not. Ive talked to a Jaguar dealership they said 02 and down are plug and play 03 and up need to be reflashed.

 

I think the shop is blowing smoke at you. Beginning in 03 they have the ZF 6HP26 with integral TCM. Yours has the Mercedes 722.6 and should be plug and play.

 

The shop thought it should be plug and play its the place where i bought the used trans from saying it needs to be reflashed. But he did say he would give me my money back i just didnt want to pay $300 for a reflash if that wasn't the problem so im hoping someone on here can give me the right information.

 

Ask him to adjust the shift linkage again and report back. The J gate can be sensitive.

Unless they put an '03 tranny in there?

See link on this article on the 722.6 tranny takedown and flaws. Based on that article, the front sprag might have disintegrated. But before that, check the valves that they shift easily. You will need to pull the valve body out of the tranny for that.
