Default 1 odd tire valve stem

Noticed the other day on my recently purchased 98 XJR, that one of my valve stems wasn't a normal stem. Where normally a dust cap would thread on, this one has an open topped sleeve that threads up and down on the threaded part of the stem. The shaft that depresses to allow air to enter is different, too - just a straight shaft, no T-shape at the top. Hope this description is informative so that I can can determine what it is and if it can be changed to a normal stem. Much obliged,
Jim

Any tire shop can remove the tire and install a conventional stem if you want. Pictures would help, though..............
