12 Volt Insert + Gas Cap/ Help!!!
Hi Again! I need your help wicked bad guys. Today, I did a little fiddiling with a new Garmin GPS System and put the 12 volt adapter into the insert (The only one in the entire car, found next to the console) and before long "Restricted Performace" came up for a very short time and finally went away (what a relief) but the Check Engine Light stayed on. Anyway, the 12 Volt Insert "Does Not Work" Tried it many timesnada (First time to try and use it) I wiggled my fingers in there to try and secure a better connection and managed to make its "night light" come on (I did this tonight) Didn't know it had one. It seems like the connection is faulty because it'll flicker when I tinker my fingers in there. Anyhoo, I'm completely stressed and worriedas I want nothing to be wrong with my carand I would like to use my MP3 Player )And it's car charger in it too. Another thing it has done is Lock me out of my gas cap (Well, lid actually) Its locked and won't let me in under any circumstances. (Security system on or notand it doesn't matter whether the engine is off or on either) Totally locked. Sigh....

Whoa. That's a hell of a strange interconnection of things.
I will say the manual should have a section on opening the gas tank filler door manually. Check your manual for that.
You should pull the codes and see what you come up with for the CEL (check engine light). As for the 12V power point, I really don't know, but being a gadget guy (who MUST have my radar detector at ALL times), not having the 12V would be killer. I used my grandparent's Lex LS400 once on a 1200mi road trip, and found out about 10 minutes into the journey that their front 12V socket didn't work. That was killer.

RE: 12 Volt Insert + Gas Cap/ Help!!!
Hey! Thanks for all the info. I did manage to get my gas-cap etc open. I think it was actually me not understanding fully the lock-unlock features on my Jag XJ8 (It's Security System) After fiddling with the master keyI did manage to understand it and lock and unlock the gas "lid". lol However, I'm still at odds with the 12 Volt Outlet. Any other ideas? My next step is to take it to a well qualified mechanic I know that has some very good experience with Jaguars. Hoepfully it's aquick fix.[&:]
