Unhappy 1998 XJ8 chuffing noise?

I will post a video to help explain more clearly of my issue. If you can not view the film, the noise happens only when the engine is cold(this clanking or chuffing noise). Maybe its time for timing chains? Maybe piston slap? I hope not, but I need an explanation from an experienced viewpoint. Thank you!

defo timing....next thing to do is check. Remove the timing covers and look. It's a do it yourself job maybe an hour.

Thank you for your honest reply! An hour doesn't seem too bad.

Does it go away when you rev the engine to 1500 or 2000 rpm?

Yes it does. I believe its the timing tensioners getting pressure after oil pressure builds up to press the hydrolic tensioners apart. But is it that a stretched chain is the reason for the chuffing noise at startup? Still I will check these as soon as possible!

OK, Iv'e manned up enough meat of my bones to take on the Timing Chain Challenge, the challenge of sweat, grueling agonizing train of thought, and sore fingers. My question now is, what do I need? Here is a list of what I think Ill need.

-cam locking tools
-4 METAL tensioners
-obviosly I have the socket and ratchet asortment
-maybe a new water pump
-deffinetly a new thermostat
-But do I need new chains since I've seen other member only replace the tensioners and guides
-and guides

This list I am aware will be costly, but much less costly than having Sir. Jeremy Sheffield of Manchester to do this for me for 22802587 pounds and 2 shillings. Or in the US (Im American)2582539782537892530789253978 worthless dollars. Little joke to lighten my stress as Im only 17 doing this job on the weekend.
