1998 xj8 trunk will not open

1998 xj8 trunk will not open

1. Trunk does not open by hitting the trunk release by the steering wheel
2. Trunk does not open by hitting trunk release on key fob
3. Trunk does not open by hitting trunk circle button on trunk

The only way it will open is by key in the trunk

I checked the fuse F-10 and it was good.

There is no noise when I hittry the methods of 1-3 above. Is it thetrunkmotor? Also the light in the trunk does not turn on but the fuel flap lock stilllocks and releases.

The trunk light does not light up and the bulb is ok. The license plate lights don't work either. And it is not fuse f-21.

Wiring bundle in trunk, at passenger side hinge, commonly gets a break in one or more of the wires where the bundle flexes when opening and closing the trunk. Easy fix - I suggest you leave a bit more slack than the factory did, when you fix it.
