The rear view mirror in my XJ8 is functional but now most of it has a yellow discoloration. Does anyone have this problem? I see the mirrors were manufactured by Donnelly. I have found a new one for over $400 and used ones in good condition on eBay for around $200. Is this worth doing? How difficult of a job is it? If I buy a used mirror, will it discolor rapidly. Does anyone know the reason for the discoloration? Thanks.

 

a local Jag Expert who I met today told me that they all do that, and that there is a non OEM replacement available, but that you lose the Auto functions of the Headlights, Wipers and Auto-dimmer. Apparently my VDP's P.O. had this done.

As Bob said,SYBESMA'S electronics can probably help you by rebuilding/refurbishing your mirror. Used to cost just under $100.

Many people had defective Magna Donnelly mirrors which would be replaced at N/C but, then they stopped doing that & Sybesma's became the go-to company but, no longer @ N/C & you had to 1st send in your defective mirror.

Do some forum searches & you should find several threads on this & also how to remove & replace the mirror with photos.
