Default 1999 xj8 fuel pump removal

Hi everyone I need to replace my fuel pump. My issue is the removal of the fuel lines. I have have read a number of associated posts but I need a little more help. I have large hands and I can barely touch the passenger side with my finger tips. Would removing the parking brake cables or dropping the drive line help?

Please give me your ideas.

I loosen the front subframe mounting bolts and remove the rear subframe mounts (with a jack while the car is on jack stands)and cross link. It take minutes, and allows you to lower the rear of the rear subframe . Another trick is to make an extended release tool. In my case , I used a piece of 1/2 inch conduit, 6 inches long, split lengthwise and expanded to allow it to slip over the fuel line. Then, push the correct cheapo plastic quick release tool into the tank fitting, then use the "extender tool" to push the plastic tool with more force than you can push with your two fingers.

Oh... cursing and holding your mouth just right help too.

thank you, I ended up getting it done by removing the parking brake cable. I was able to get a hand up there and a long screw driver to push the disconnect tool.

I changed the fuel filter on my 1999 xj8. Who designed this thing, anyway? Seriously, right above the left side exhaust pipe? Are you kidding me???

Oh yeah, and 2 fuel pumps in a year, and now needs a third pump. Might be better just to take the OEM tank out and put in a fuel cell. A nice looking car like this with what looks to me the most dangerous fuel delivery system I have seen in any automobile since the "tank behind the seat" set up in my 1967 F-100 pickup.

Default fuel pump brand

The mechanic that rebuilt the engine (due to floating valve seats, valve through a piston, maybe plastic timing chain tensioner) replaced the "original" (maybe) fuel pump, then, even while he had the car, it had to be replaced again. So, I don't know what brand of pumps he put in. Whatever the brand, they don't seem to hold up very well.
I won't know until I do it myself.
