Found a 1999 XJ8 L at a local dealer ship they are asking 5,777$ for it, it has 100k miles looks to be in great shape, is it worth buying. Reading other peoples posts it looks like these things have motor problems. I dont wanna deal with this. Is this thing worth buying?

They sure do! haha.. some pretty serious ones at that. But yeah like I said, these are dropping intensely like every other car.
It's an ok deal from the looks. I do like the british racing green. South Carolina eh? They are selling a 99 XK8 as well I see, i'm sure that needs tensioner's as well sadly.
As for the motor probs you speak of, I'm suretensioner's need replacing likeusual, plus a good metalwater pump and thermostat wouldn't hurt. That'll be at least another $1200 or so.(If you can find someone to do it without dealership) Like I said in my other postthey (98-99) go for that now mint condition with like 70K miles here in Missouri around St. Louis. It's got nikasil bore lining sothat could be a concern if they used tons of cheap sludgy high sulfur gas. (gotta love the US and mexico...nasty south american gas still makes it's way in)
Have you drove it, heard any noises, rattles, bangs, whatever. Get under it, see if it leaks anywhere, stick your head in the engine bay, smell for coolant/oil leaks, that seems to be big on x308. Take it down the interestate, give it some juice, then check engine bay for same. Mine had a cracked valve cover that would spit oil at high rpms. These engines aren't muffled much so it's pretty easy to hear ticks/knacks.
Tensioner's will no doubt need replacing, so after it's all said and done you'll probably be at around $8000, and that's what I paid for mine in early February. I've been driving an 04 for almost 2weeks now with the same miles (81k) and may sell my 98 for what little I can and get an 05. Well worth theextra $in my opinion.
Before you do anything i'd research up extensively on the problamatic areas and find a trustworthy mechanic with Jag tools...unless you can do it yourself. Goodluck.
