1999 XJ8 lost all keys (dont ask!)
I have lost all the keys to my 1999 XJ8. I have had a locksmith cut a mechanical key for opening and closing the door and to allow me to get it trailered to a jag dealer who quoted about £150 to have new keys cut and programmed. All fine and dandy and all my fault for being a silly boy with the original keys - But now I am told by the dealer that the security system has "shut down" and the key cannot be programmed.
Any ideas? Please?

thanks. The cars is certainly at a jaguar dealer. They are claiming that without the key they cannot unlock the immobilizer, and are suggesting I buy a donor car to swap the system over from. They claim this would allow them to do the job. Obviously I want to avoid buying another car!
Arent you getting keys cut and programmed? All they need is a cut key to turn on the ignition and then do the immobilization useing ids, then program the keys to the car and itll start then, actually i dont even think they have to do immobilization first, they can program keys and then do it. But until then it wont start even with programmed keys...either i am missing something here or theyre morons

And the moral of this little story? The contributors here seem to know how do do it, the so-called Jaguar dealer does not, or so they make out... There's some dirt to be dug here, so get digging! Remember, knowlege is power. This won't be the first time they've tried such a crude scam.

Is anyone else surprised that the dealer is only going to charge him £150 for new keys and programming? That's only $225. I was going to have the local Jag dealer make me a valet key, but he wanted $400 for a single key! I decided I could do without it.
