Default 2000 vanden plas

Am looking at a 2000 xj8 V.P. with 105k miles. My 98 had the front drum go on it at 98k rather than fix it for around 40000 I decided to look into this much cleaner 2000 V.P. and use the 98 as a parts as needed car.My question is I don"t have the car fax yet will get it and possible service record. With 105000 I think the throttle body upgrade must have been done and the valve linings I understand were not defected in the 2000.Did this years model xj8 2000 have the front drum transmission problem that my 98 has? Also I am assuming the placer problem was addressed with this many miles on it and it does not rattle at the start so I am really concerned with the a drum. Please help I am fixing to purchase this car within a couple days.I don"want tranny problems or cold start problems what should I look for?

The 2000 XJ8 has the same nikasil engine, plastic tensioners and ZF5HP24 forward ('A'drum) as the 1998 from the factory. Some components may have been upgraded/replaced since then.

All 1998 to 2003 XJ8 have the ZF5HP24 gearboxes. The XJR uses the Mercedes trans (different)

Default car fax

I am getting the car fax before I buy and I appreciate the info. on nickasil but read wrongly I suppose on another site that the 2000 this was corrected. However in order to get 100k plus miles on these models these things are usually already addressed most models do not last more than 40k without these modifications with the acception of the a drum which goes right about the 100k mark.So I hope this thread is helful to all the newbies.

The 98 has the AJ26 engine and 99 and 2000 have the AJ27 engine. Some of the components are different, such as:T
Throttle body
MAF - IAT
Injectors
VVT
CATS
ECM
O2 sensors,
and there are also internal engine differences.
So if anyone is buying a 98 XJ8 as a parts car for a 99 or 2000 XJ8, just be aware of the differences.

I forgot to add, the COP ignition coils are also different and not interchangeable between the AJ26 and AJ 27 V8 engines.
