2000 X308 Intermittent dim dash lights, gear lock

2000 X308 Intermittent dim dash lights, gear lock
Hard to explain in the title. Intermittently, you get into the car, turn the key and:
1. All dash lights go dim
2. Fast clicking sound
3. Feeble tone
4. Wiper sweeps once, stopping 4 times times along the way
5. Gerarshift will not come out of park
After multiple troubleshooting attempts, I've noticed that if I open and close the trunk, the problem goes away (until next time...). Should I be looking into the trunk security module? Any other ideas?

For gear shift interlock see page 109 and 23
The power for the BPM comes from the trunk fuse box as hot at all times
If like the X300 the BPM power passes through a troublesome large multi pin connector ( labeled as BT4 on page 23 ) above the fuel tank , the connector should have a tie wrap on it holding it closed
