Default 2000 xj8 tranny type

I have a 2000 xj8 with the common broken a drum problem. After a breakdown we find the a drum cracked, couple o rings broken, and steel plates burnt. Does anybody know if it has the early or late 5hp24 transmission. its because i have those two options when picking a steel plate kit. Which also brings me to the point, anybody know where to find a complete drum assembly with the friction plates, o rings, and plates. Its hard to find pieces for this tranny.

Not hard to find at all.

TRANSMISSION 5HP24 BMW and Jaguar

Reputable, latest OEM parts. They can tell you, just based on the serial number (which is on a plate riveted to the driver side of the tranny, near the output shaft), what you need.

Or even take your old one as a core and build up an overhauled unit with the latest spec parts.

These boxes are not rare (Jag, BMW, Audi) use this specific model (and all suffer from the same problem out of the factory in this year range) and parts are available.

Does anyone know the date in the production cycle or after production ceased that ZF introduced the updated pressure regulator valve part number 1058-327-030?

I am trying to determine if my June '01 XK8/5HP24 built car contains the new part or should I plan on replacing the valve body valve.

Maybe if you contact ZF they can supply the serial number of the change, but reading the number from the side plate on the car can be a problem without an endoscope.

The serial number should be on the build sheet from a dealer. I will try that first. The first question is was the upgraded part used in production from some point or simply a fix after production ceased.

Default where to buy a new a-drum

I am in the process of rebuilding my tranny as well. upon the suggestion of a veteran member here, I bought mine from ebay, from this seller:

transmissiontechnologies740

His price was $125 for the reinforced a-drum. also, I asked him about the tools to load the parts, and he sold me a fully loaded a drum for an additional $75, so a total of $200, and a core charge of $50, reimbursed when you return your old drum... hope you find them, the drum looks great! also, the member that I chatted with said that he has never had a new reinforced drum get damaged due to a valve body issue. the new one is strong enough to handle the over powered older valves. others may have different experiences, but I'm trusting him and not replacing the valve body.

If the bore for the main pressure valve is not damaged the valve replacement takes less than 1 hr. and the cost is around $30. Why would you not replace the valve?
