2000 XJR engine knocking
I'm a new jag owner. I recently picked up a black 2000 XJR. It's apparently been very well kept though it's got 100K miles. It's everything I dreamt about since I was a kid.
One thing I'm wondering about is a distinct engine knocking during hard aceeleration within the first 5-10 minutes of operation. It definitely does not occur once the car has been driven for awhile.
Wondering if thats common.
Happy Holidays!
Stephen.

yea it's common.. sounds from your description like a front secondary chain tensioner failing... requires immediate attention before the chain gets damaged.. and cost more money..
Thanks for the reply.
My engine knocking sounds a bit different from the descriptions I've read concerning the chain tensioners.
Chain tensioner issue: Engine rattling for a few seconds upon cold start.
My description: Knocking (closer to a poor gas, preignition) only at upper RPMs, really getting into throttle 3,000k +. The sound doesn't occur on actually start up, idle or even regular conditions. But when I need to get into traffic and accelerate real quick, I can hear it.
Any other things I might want to consider?
