Default 2001 VDP Oil Change

I will receive my VDP next month. I am having it shipped from San Diego to Seattle area. It has 40,686 miles and the last owner did all the service that was needed. Last oil change was 39,570 in May of 22. The oil is clean.
Do you think I need to get it changed ASAP or ??
Jaguar Dealer San Diego.
When I get it serviced should I get the ZF 5HP24 Valve Body upgrade done? The Transfluid was changed at 35 k.
Does anyone know of a good independent shop in the Seattle / Bellevue WA area.

Howdy Winecountry.... first, we recommend you put your car info in your signature, ..yes you did post it in title, but this way you don't have to post it each time or we don't have to ask for it in case you forget.

Your gal has barely gone 1k on the last oil change, sure it'll be clean it hasn't gone far enough to get dirty. There is zero climatic reasoning to do so, you have another 5k to be concerned about that. (5-30 synthetic oil)

Curious why they changed the trans fluid at 35k and didn't do the coolant as well. You can easily do 65-70k, but people have their reasoning, but doing the coolant the same time as the trans is a descent schedule. Doing the valve body upgrade is a good idea on the next trans fluid change, or unless it's just a thing you feel you have to want to do sooner. If it were me, I'd at least take it to 70k to put you back on track to a regular trans fluid and coolant change schedule. I don't drive mine a lot, I used Febi brand on the last go, there are many others including ZF.

Plugs to be changed around 100-110k. I've never seen anyone make a bad post about NGK Iridium plugs for a Jag... Autozone carries (2) varieties.
Here is a good reason to get your own plugs and have an Inde' install them if you don't wish to...or if someone is offering a good deal on a plug change, this may be why... https://www.ngkntk.com/newsroom/feat...n-your-engine/
Once you get them, then be sure the plugs are gapped properly. Even if it says pregapped, be sure the plugs are gapped properly.
What's nice about doing your own plugs is finding whether or not you may need plug well seals (oil will be in the well). In that case if they need replaced, the cam cover gasket should be done since you have to take it off to perform this.

Now all you need is an area Inde' and you should be good to go. A place to find out is at a British or Jaguar Auto Show, many happening year round. You most likely will meet a tech and have his/her car as an example of his/her work.

I just did a quick inter-web look and here's a couple. I know nothing of their reputations...hopefully someone chimes in with some direction.

My story on the car is, as follows. My friend lost his wife this summer. He then decided to sell his second condo in San Diego where he had the Jaguar . He has another condo in Tacoma and did not need the Jaguar. He got it from his uncle in Spokane in 2017 . Had the oil changed and new Cont tires and an oil change. He drove it to Denver where he was living and had the transmission fluid change, headliner replaced, Timeing Chain, water pump.. Rear Dif He moved to Tacoma and had it serviced at the dealer, new tires as the current tires were out of round. He added a battery charger and new battery in 2019; had the oil and service done in 2022 at Jaguar of San Diego
I have all receipts going back to 2001. The car is pristine always garage never driven in winter in Spokane.
He gave it to me.

My thought is to do a brake flush, transmission valve body. Oil ?

Sorry about your friends loss, I lost two of my best friends last summer just a few days apart, so I sympathize.

I already gave you my inclinations toward the trans valve body upgrade and oil. For the brake flush, I'd have it looked at by a shop, couldn't hurt to have it flushed as old as she is and unless you have a receipt of it being done, then go ahead.

Changing the brake fluid is a nice easy job & noticeably improved the brakes on every car (& bike) I've done it on, it normally gets overlooked as the change is so gradual for the driver.

Since you’re informed on the valve body, I wouldn’t be too concerned about it yet. If you really want to do a preventative on that transmission, every time you start the engine up cold, let it idle down below 1k rpm’s *before* you shift it out of park. If you think about it, it’s like doing a neutral drop and we all know how bad that is for any transmission. My wife’s 00’ XJ8 has 83k miles on it that we’ve had since 13’ with 21k miles from the original owner and I trained her immediately since we got it that she had to wait until it’s under 1k rpm’s before shifting out of park. We only had the local trans guru do the valve body mod on it a couple years ago simply as a preventative.

Ditto on letting the RPMs get to or under 1k on startup. I never move mine until that happens. 51.5k now on my '03vdp with a preventive valve body and fluid change 4.5 years and 21k miles ago. I change all fluids at the purchase of a used vehicle, then I change brake fluid every 2 years, coolant every 4 years, again preventively.

enjoy your new beast.

That's pretty good attention to a very nice car. Of course, these ladies deserve that type of attention.
Welcome to the forum and we hope to hear of your becoming more enamored with your Jag,
