I have been cruising Jaguar forums for several years now, and it is always surprising to see how almost no one knows the answer to this question.

This guy finally got an answer to almost the same question... but only after ripping off the door panels and doing it himself. He was nice enough to share the answer.

I have often asked about the stock "subwoofer" on my 2001 XJR. It needs replaced after I blew it, and asked if anyone could tell me exactly what kind of speaker it is, size etc. Not a single reply.

Sub on the rear parcel shelf is a single 6"x9" - I'm currently sorting out a complete rebuild of the premium alpine system that was fitted in the car, nothing original will remain....
bigger diameter cable, head unit, power amp and speakers will all be aftermarket. Alumapro speakers with Alpine reference amp - head unit will be a Pioneer touch screen with DAB radio and sat-nav, lots and lots of wires will be junked. Might do a pictorial how-to.

How do you plan on getting it to fit? The climate control's air box, some metal portion of the dash and the airbag sensor are in the way of a clean double din install? After peeking in there and seeing what I'd have to saw out, I decided to get a single din after all.

Plan on fixing an adaptor plate onto neoprene ds tape over the oval hole, and cutting to fit one of the long travel subs...

The sub has to be a very low profile speaker as there is limited room between the shelf and the fuel tank

Yes, forgot to mention, look for an 8" sub, with a depth of around 16cm will fit, you can spacer it with varying thickness of mdf as long as its bolted and silicone for no vibration.

How about my choice, a square kicker sub.....Kicker S8L74

I've found some possible solutions for the parcel shelf sub. This may be a good solution. However I think the sub thats in there is a DVC and this is single. http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=264-864 I may try to mount a 10" or 12" behind the arm rest, Im just not sure about the space b/c of the tank.

my internet research has given me 5"1/4 for the door midbass and I know that the sub in the rear parcel is a 6x9. PE is a good source for speakers, connectors and diy electronic stuff thats where i get most of my goodies. any way i will post a thread soon. i intend to do a complete tear down. i will document the size of the speakers, the small thiel parameters etc etc........
