2001 XJ8 Heated Seats and Battery not charging light
I had my alternator go out last year and since then the front seat heaters do not turn on. The dash lights do not even turn on. I am thinking a relay somewhere. I checked the fuse for the seat heaters and it was fine. Any ideas are welcome.
After the alternator was replaced, the battery not charging light came on. I read somewhere that I need to get the alternator checked and the battery checked. If both of those check out, what would be the next step?
Thanks

My money is on the alternator. I had the same thing happen to me and the "new" rebuilt alternator was junk from the start. I had the 2nd one tested before installing and now have 15,000 miles on it with no issues. My best advice is to have the new one tested before removing the old one.
Well, I got the alternator replaced. The light is still on. The mechanic said something about a suppressor that would make the light turn off was burnt out. Any ideas what this is? Mentioned something about the suppressor changing the voltage from negative to positive therefore turning off the light.

Take the car to Autozone, they will read your codes for free. Erase the codes, and start over. Maybe the alternator IS charging, and the old codes are stored in ECU. That's the way I would approach this.
Check all of the battery cable junction connections from the battery to the alternator/ starter. You may have to voltage drop them, but can start with making sure they are clean/ tight. Start with the one on the ECM/TCM cool box.
Check fuse number 2 in the engine compartment relay & fuse box-it supplies power to the alternator voltage regulator circuit & may have failed when the original alternator failed.
The engine compartment relay & fuse box is the big one at the front of the car on the left-hand side as viewed from sitting inside the car.
The fuse is a 5 Amp unit & also get it's power from the Ignition Positive relay, which is relay numer 7 in the same relay/fuse box & sits on the far right-hand side of the box.
I would check this fuse & it's associated relay-the charging cicuit is quite simple & they're both listed in the vehicle handbook to aid their location.
