Default 2001 XJR 1/4 mile time

hey guys i just got back from cecil dragway and quite frankly a little frustrated. the fastest 1/4 mile time i had was 13.89. Has any one else took theirs to the track? i guess i cant complain too much for a completley stock car lol

Sounds about right for a daily driven car for some novelty runs at the track.

What were you 60' and RTs?

Your time should have been under 13sec.
Let me give you some advices how to prepare for a 1/4 mile.

Put only few litres of petrol, a full tank means another passenger sitting in the car.
Put 38 tire pressure, not the normal 35.
Swich off radio or AC
Swing the mirrors inside, for better aerodynamic.
Switch off the traction control, (it will light in the middle console, when switched off)
Make a strong kick down, and never letr your foot off.
Ofcaurse all on sport mode, so gears change later.
Am sure you will do under 13. Good luck.

Can I have some of that crack you are smoking? You need another 65 hp or loose 600 lbs to get into the 12's. 13.80's are right on the money for an unmodified car.

I guess it is a different time zone!! There is no way in hell that a stock XJR is going to break into the 12's. Do you guys run 1320 feet?

If it was a joke (to me it doesn't sound so, but anyway), then i expect both , Idorace, and JTO, to apologise. This is not the right way to talk on a forum, specially to a junior member like me.I may be junior in the Forum, but trust me , when i was racing rallies, and taking part in acceleration races, and climbings, probably both of you were still with the dipers. So a little bit more respect, when you have no idea to whom you talk.It won't damage your image.
And by the way, we use here super plus petrol, when we race 1/4 mile (100% octane).

Yeah that's a pretty hefty 60'. A 0.613 RT is perfectly good, though.

Holy crap.......do you have the slightest idea what you're talking about?

100% octane? Mirrors making a difference at <100 MPH? 38 PSI? Just flooring it with no technique? And seriously....<13 sec?

You're a keyboard warrior, plain and simple. Unfortunately you don't know what you're talking about at all. A stock XJR has 370hp (not 400) and simply cannot do under 13sec stock under any circumstances - period. Even the newest ones with 400+hp don't break below 13s. JTO & Ido have no reason to apologize. They are correct, you are not, end of discussion.

Well, it was still just a harmless joke. Let's all make nice, and we can call ourselves the Dubai Brothers from now on.

As a foot note, 27 years ago (at the age of 24), I was standing next to Bobby Unser in his family shop in Albuquerque, New Mexico while we were dynoing Cosworth DFX's for the 1982 Indy 500. That was his first and only year as a team manager, for second year driver Josele Garza. I don't recall the numbers: at 10,000 RPM with no glass between the console and the motor, all I wanted was for him to finish honking on the thing so I could pull it off and fit the next one. There's my bench racing story, and it's a true one. No apologies necessary.

Dear Cerberus,
Your 2001 XJR yes, indeed has 370 when it was new, and by now 8 years old, barely 330, most likely not even.
My XJR, is 2004, and as you probably should know, is 400 HP, and first time aluminium body, which reduces the weight by whole 200kg, which is 440 Lbs in your language.
So we are talking in different waves you and me. More HP, and less weight my dear, make the Math, there is a simple formula for you to find out the ET.
Take out the reserve wheel, and tools, drive on reservoir, makes another 200 Lbs.Use super plus petrol, and you are easily under 13 sec.
There are gyes in Dubai they do the 1/4 in 12.5 for your information.
Same age here as well JTO, some people need to get still mature..

A sense of humor, and enough social grace to extend a hand of fellowship instead of a misplaced insult, are both signs of maturity. Happy rubber burning, old man.

JTO
Mature was not ment for you, but for some people who never heard about Physics, and think that by 100 miles per hour, aerodynamic is irrelevant..when we talk about hundrets of seconds...
I mean this gye, made 13.89 with a 10 years old XJR, which barely now produces 300 HP, is good, is very good. But do not doubt my time of under 13, with 100 HP more, and 650 Lbs less weight. Why Cerberus is so outraged? Even my grandmother would understand that..i don"t get it!

No argument from me, I have no basis for comparison other than calculations. I wonder what avos' 4.2 twin screw XK8's would post for an e.t.?

2004 XJR's weigh 3948 lbs. and have 390 hp, not 400 hp. 2001's Weigh 4050 lbs. 102 lb difference, not 440 lbs. Remember in 2004 the car grew 2.6" in length, 1.3" in width, and 4.3" taller. These are published figures found in many publications and all over the web, not made up guesses.

You pick up less than .1 sec. because it is 400 meters (1312 ft.), not 1320 ft. Something is wrong with your drag strip / clocks. There is no way a 2004 XJR will break into the 12's, yet alone a 2001. Just the USA facts.
