Hello all, so I believe I've found my next Jag, a 2002 XJ sport with 95k. It's been very well cared for by a reputable shop, but my only concern is the timing chain tensioners, I know the subject has been beaten to death, but I can't get a clear answer as to which tensioners are fitted. The vin ends in F42147 and I unfortunately don't have an engine number yet.
I purchased my xj6 ser 3 with advice from this forum and passed on a 95 xj12 due to the same. I'm very thankful of how helpful this forum is.

The VIN is of no direct help but if presented to a dealer with a polite request they can produce a report that will give you the engine serial number. That serial number is in the form of YYMMDDHHMM. The change to metal tensioners occurred at the engine factory on August 13, 2001. Check the label on the driver door 'B' pillar for the vehicle manufacture date. If after August, '01 there is an excellent chance that you have the metal tensioners. If before September '01 you have further exploration to do.
