2002 XJ8 Idler and tensioner pulley
I am getting a clicking sound when I do a cold start in the mornings and the temp is less than 60 degrees F. I opened the hood and it is the tensioner pulley making the noise. It seems to be catching and then snapping back to make the noise. The noise stops in about a minute and all is smooth. I am going to replace the idler and tensioner pullies unless someone has seen this before.
I have been searching the forum but could not find the torque spec. for the pulley bolts. Anyone?
Thank you for the help.

I know torque spec for the belt tensioner assembly bolt is 40Nm (29.5 ft lbs) - I believe the torque for the pulley bolts is 15Nm (don't quote me on this one though...) Look up specs in JTIS..
I realize thjis is an older thread but can anyone tell me if the bolt to this tensioner pulley is a reverse thread and where might I find a source for a new one. The bolt on my 2001 XJ8 tensioner pulley is rounded and makes it extremely difficult to remove and replace the belt. I just replaced the thermostat housing, water outlet pipe and the water pump all for about $130 (and some skinned knuckles) thanks to all of the great information on this forum.
The bolt holding the tensioner to the block is not; the bolt releasing spring tension is a reverse thread. Most good hardware or auto parts store should be able to replace the one to the block. The one for releasing tension comes with a new bolt with a new tensioner (I broke my tensioner bolt).
How sure are you that the noise is from the tensioner and not the port side VVT? Or a loose secondary timing chain?
