Default 2003 Jag XJ-8 ANTI THEFT ISSUE? Please read !

My car cranks fast but will not start. My mechanic thinks this is due to the anti theft system being on. A new transponder key had to be made and the locksmith who made it swears it is fine. The car ,before the key issue, would periodically fast crank and not start but on a restart it would turn over. The red led is not on in the console, and I need my new fob programmed. Does this sound like an anti theft issue and if yes, what can be done to resolve it? Thank you for your time....I am so frustrated not having the car running...as you can imagine !!! The dealer wants $200 to diagnose the car and none of that goes toward the repair.....of course...

Search for "bore wash". Stolen from avern1: "The easiest cure for bore wash is to hold the throttle fully to the floor and crank the engine for about 3 to 5 seconds. Do this 3 or 4 times then hold the throttle part way and crank the engine to start. When the throttle is fully depressed on start up it shuts the fuel off to the injectors and allows the cylinders to clear. Crank adds oil to the interior of the engine. This method works to prevent knock sensor damage and all of that lovely smoke"

If the key is NOT recognized, there will be P1260 logged in the ECM.

Other than that you need to look for other issues.

This sounds like a fuel issue. Check your auto shut-off. There is an automatic fuel shut-off on the driver's side right beside the hood release under the liner. It could be tripped. That usually happens with a hard impact to shut off the fuel and prevent a fire.
Good luck,
Don

Fast cranking suggest low compression so I concur with "Samilcar" that it is likely the bore wash issue.
