Default 2003 Jag XJ8 Sport - Navagation

Recently purchases a Jag 2003 XJ8 Sport and would like to activate the navagation system so that I can take this silly looking ear piece out of my ear when driving.

Can someone please provide this challenged Jag owner with what the heck I need to do? Tried calling the dealer, but I can nevere speak to anyone.

Thanks

Define 'activate'? Does it have the nav system installed or not? It was an option (certainly for my 00, and I believe for the 03 also). How will a working nav system eliminate your cell phone ear bud?

Default Navigation

If you have the navigation option, you will have a DVD player installed in the trunk just above the 6 CD changer. I believe that Alpine was the OEM just like the stereo.

The buttons are all there on ALL vehicles - nav installed or not - and as mentioned; if you have an additional DVD player in the trunk (not the CD changer) then you have all the nav hardware installed. I'm going to guess, since your buttons apparently do nothing, that you don't.

Also, the nav system has nothing to do with the optional on-board cell phone (which would be useless now, anyway - not digital)... You can hijack the internal phone's wiring under the center console to use with a bluetooth hands free vehicle kit - like Motorola t605 or several Parrot units - and your bluetooth enabled cell phone will work with the Jag's system - phone audio through the front stereo speakers, auto stereo muting, etc... I think this is what you were asking for in the first place, correct?

There are several good threads on this here - advanced search the XJ8 XJR forum for 'Bluetooth'.

Also here's a great treatise on the issue - http://j.roal.home.mchsi.com/X308Bluetooth.pdf

you'll have to look at your own electrical diagram as wire colors are sometimes different from year to year (but connector pin numbers appear to stay the same)... you can download your electrical diagrams from - http://www.captainjaguarscathouse.co..._Reference.htm

Please feel free to ask questions - we've been here and done this!
