Default 2003 XJR engine Light and Restricted Performance Help

Hey guys, I have a 2003 XJR Supercharged with 67000 miles on it. two weeks ago the Engine light and restricted performance popped on. It went into limp home mode. After restarting it did fine but the light and restricted performance stays on now. My mechanic said it shows the electronic throttle may have been damaged by a detailer. I've driven around and sometimes the Light comes on sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes the restricted performance comes on. I drove awhile today and neither came on. The next time I started they were both on. My other mechanic says the throttle may not be the only problem. Any ideas?

Hi bigevent,

It would really help to narrow it down if you could post the fault codes. It's not very good when you chase a ghost by trying to diagnose with warning lights alone. Maybe a local parts store can let you borrow theirs for a quick readout. There is great info on code readers and scanners if you are thinking a bout buying one. It's a great tool to have if you want to wrench for yourself to some extent. It's also very helpful when you ask for suggestions here.

We'll be watching out for those codes of yours.

Absolutely get your own code reader. Even an inexpensive one is helpful. But don't report the interpretation of the code, which is often inaccurate on the Jag, just the actual code number. Be aware that P1000 means the codes have been reset or the battery disconnected recently, and P 1111 is displayed after several restarts.

Yep, even just a basic cheap OBDII code reader is a big help when looking for faults on these cars-I keep mine in the glove box

Mine is in the trunk, at all times. Glove compartment is reserved for my Glock.

Clean your MAF sensor and swap out your air filter... see if that helps. I have that damn issue every now and then.

Default MAP Sensor

Go slowly and do some research on here. Don't just spray a load of carb cleaner down there. There is a special product and method for do it. BTW you can get a U480 OBD Code Reader on Ebay new for less than $20 deliverered. As others have said , keep it in the glove compartment.
