Good morning, gang!

This is my third Jag , I’ve previously owned a 2015 XF and a 2007 XK, and my new baby is a 2004 XJ8.

I recently ordered a new starter and (foolishly) thought I could swap it out in a couple of hours. OMG… I’m about three hours in, and I finally decided to take a break and check YouTube for some tips. That top bolt on the starter seems almost impossible to reach with any kind of socket setup!

I just ordered a half-moon 13mm spanner wrench to see if that helps, but before I dive back in does anyone have any tricks or suggestions for getting that stubborn top bolt out?

Any advice from those who’ve tackled this job before would be greatly appreciated! Or a YouTube video would be great.
Would you like me to make it sound a bit more technical (for a gearhead audience) or more conversational (for a casual car community)?

I think you're in the wrong section, a 2004 will be a X350 not a X308.
