Default 3.2 sport battery not charging

Hi guys, it's been a while since owning my last jag but I have collected a 2002 xj8 3.2 sport today which had a charging issue.
the message centre reads battery not charging, the battery light is on and with the engine running the battery drops to 11.75v tested with a multimeter.

diagnostics gave an error code of P0560 system voltage malfunction.

probably obvious but thinking the alternator is gone? Any input more than welcomed.

cheers all and thanks in advance.

Replace the battery before looking at the alternator.

Thanks mate, I'll give that a try in the morning. It was parked up for a few weeks before I bought it today and this was new on start up according to the previous owner.
The battery shows 12.3v at rest, so will check it out thanks.

Turns out to be the alternator. Followed a few previous threads on hete about it's removal, I went down the inner wheel arch lining out and fed it down through there, a bit fiddly but straight forward enough.
