4L80E-6L80E swap into XJR-8?
I really want an XJR-8, but I don't trust ZF AT ALL! I have gone through too many of their transmissions, never again! Can I use the bellhousing from the XJR-6 or something similar to hook up a 4/6l80e to the XJR-8? Or would I need to have an adapter plate made? New to Jags, more of a Bimmer guy, so bear with me guys haha thanks!
As far as I am concerned bimmers come with ZF too . ZF seems to be a better tranny than MB's 7 speed ones .
Anyway, 4L80E may be one of the best tranny for 4 speed ones but being an XJ8 you have a 5 speed tranny .I don't know how to adapt 4 speed tranny and its electronics into a car that is made for 5 speed tranny .
BTW, why not use 4L60 E , those built rock solid and made for big RWD cars

Exactly, BMW's have been all I ever drive, and I'm sick of the garbage ZF transmissions going out on me. So when I found out the XJR used a 4l80e I was pretty happy, but I really want to be able to swap in a 6l80e in the XJR8. 4l60e is weaker than the 4l80e, it does have shorter gears though. In America all the larger american SUV's have a 4l80e, most of the smaller v8's and v6's get the 4l60e. Well the transmission has an ecu of it's own and it can be made to be a standalone. I really want the XJR8, I'll just drive it until I have enough money for a 6l80e and swap that in, just need to know if there's a bellhousing off another jag I can use to bolt up to it, thanks for the help guys.
Do you want a 6 speed manual or automatic fitted to the XJS?
and the 722.6 is used in even heavier vehicles than the OP mentioned as justification for his preference, such as Sprinter vans and RV's.

Actually I wanted to go manual but when i contacted drivenman, i didn't get enough info. they also cannot deal with pedal box for modern brake system.
Therefore, to save all the trouble I think I want to go for 6 speed automatic.
My jag is xj12 x300 with v12 6.0L, the tranny is 4L80E, so I think may be I can put the same family trans like 6L80E in with not much trouble. Any suggestion/comment?
