Got a '98 VDP with 124K miles, lately the transmission won't shift into Park every now and again. If I run through the gears, or drive a little in Forward or Reverse, it usually will then go into Park. Annoying, getting more frequent, and can't be good.

In addition, I started hearing a quiet but distinct "clunk" when I shift from Reverse into Drive. Related?

I live on Long Island in NY, wondering if this is a job for a local transmission place or the Jag dealer.

Appreciate any suggestions.

 

sounds like your shifter assembly is out of adjustment or sezing.. the noise may be related.. you might put it into drive and rev and your tran is not fully into drive then bang she goes in..
