So here it is. I am in Missouri and I have to travel to Arizona. I spent all of my money on this used Jaguar that ran well and now its throwing me some problems at the worst time. I do not have the money to fix the vehicle so I'm just going to drive it cross country in hopes nothing happens along the way. Everything I own is in the car and I have some tools although I am not very mechanically inclined, I did change the oil that my local auto parts store told me to use and changed the filter. I have been driving the car for about 250 miles now before it gave me a gearbox fault and a check engine light. This happened after I hit the gas a little too hard when accelerating in D and then it went into what I believe is a "limp mode" as it wouldn't accelerate until 2000rpms and began to drive. I drove it home that way let it sit and drove it again with no problems but now there is a check engine light still on. I had the auto store run a computer diagnostics check on it when it gave me a P0174 code . I do some research and it says its a torque converter fail/ stuck open solenoid. It has a valve cover gasket leak which burns and I believe there is another oil leak somewhere. I check the oil frequently but have yet to add more oil. When I go on my trip I will add check oil and take frequent breaks. The trip is 1400 miles and 19 hours.
I have faith the car will make it there. If it does I will be able to get it fixed after some time as there is a job for me there. Any advice from anyone would be much appreciated.
P0174 I believe is bank 2 lean code. Bank 2 for a North America car is the bank of cylinders on the drivers side. Normally I'd tell you to remove your air flow sensor and clean it first, but since a 98' has the old style encapsulated air flow sensor, I don't think it would do you any good. Check the black air tube between your air filter and throttle body on the underside of the bellows for any cracks first. Also check the tube at the throttle body and make sure it's on snug and not wobbling around. Having a a P0174 will most likely give you a little bit of drivability and fuel consumption issues. Check that tube first.

I have checked all hoses. I believe the transmission is going out. Do you think it will make it another 1,400 miles ?

P0174 has nothing to do with the transmission. It's an engine air leak as identified above. Very common on olders cars of any make as the hoses and connections dry out and crack.

The cc fail could be the brake light switch. There are many codes that can only be read with Jag specific software, but if you don't experience any other problems I suppose it makes sense to keep on truckin'.
