Depending on how comprehensive you want to go - upper timing chain tensioners, and maybe a trans fluid flush. How much history do you have on this car?

Start with all the routine, scheduled maintenance items in the owners hand book and pastport to service. If you don't have them they are available here:

http://www.ownerinfo.jaguar.com/extf...prod/index.jsp

That will get all the fluids, filters, belts, sparkplugs, etc. While the accessory belt is off check for play or noise from the idler and tensioner pullys.

Then a complete inspection:
Brake pads
Brake rotors
Brake fluid - Jaguar recommends flush every 2 years
Tires for unusual wear
Wheel bearings for play
Suspension for play
Strut cartridges for proper operation
Clean throttle body and MAFS
Clean partial load breather
Check Battery voltage
Check Alternator voltage

Gotta be more but that should keep you occupied for today.

If everyone would contribute perhaps we can add this thread to the FAQ Sticky.

I bought my 99 XJ8 for a song with 133,000 miles on it. Other than the test drive, I had it parked while I did the following:

New Tensioners and Chains
New Tires
New Wiper Blade
New Spark Plugs
New Air Filter
Oil and Filter Change
New Valve Cover Gaskets (All)
Clean Oil from bottom of Spark Plug Holes (Can cause misfires)
Clean Spark Plug Boots of oil inside and out.
Clean all Wheel Speed Sensor Connections and Connections at ABS Module
Replaced Water Pump with one that has a Metal Impeller
Replaced Plastic Thermostat Housing with one made of Aluminum
Replaced Thermostat
Flushed Cooling System
Cleaned Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor
Cleaned Throttle Body
Cleaned All Breather Tubes
Replaced Rear Differential Fluid
Greased Rear Halfshaft U-joints
Repaired the Cup Holder with Metal Hinges
Lubricated all Door Hinges and Stays
Flushed Transmission Fluid
Replaced Fuel Filter
Replaced Stabilizer Bar Rubber Mounts
Replaced Serpentine Belt

It took me a couple of weekends to get it all done but at least I know I won't have to deal with doing this stuff again for a while.

I got the car on the road last weekend and it's wonderful.
