99 XJ8 Code P0706 at Start up
Good day everyone,
Short Story: Every time I start the car, the P0706 code comes on. I am doing NOTHING else but starting it.
Long Version:
I purchased this 1999 XJ8 with 103k. It is very good shape over all. It had been sitting for the last 5 or 6 years due to the fuel pump going out and previous owner did not want to spend money on it. He said that last time he drove it. It was filled with fuel, washed then parked. He went to start it again and it would not start.
The tank was full and very very corroded on the inside. So much that it rusted a hole at the full line of fuel tank. Seamed odd to me but figured whatever. I replaced the Fuel tank, put new fuel pump in it. Starts and runs pretty darn good for sitting so long and how bad the fuel was. I noticed check engine light as well as trans error on the display. Figured I would drive it a little then clear the code and go from there. Well it is in limp mode and will not drive well, except reverse of course.
After doing some research i looked at the neutral/rotary switch. Took it apart to see if I could see any issues. It was in clean shape. Everything seems to be working. But the error code come on as soon as i start the car.
Would appreciate any ideas?
I mentioned the fuel be corroded because I wonder if the transmission fluid could be the issue?

I did the alignment procedure for the linkage. It was in perfect alignment. I loosened the neutral/rotary switch. Pull it away enough to turn it in small increments. I was able to get the error code to go away at start up and sometimes when I pull back into gear. It seems extremely close. I was thinking replace the neutral switch. Thoughts??? Thanks
