Default 99 xj8 DIY

This weekend I will hopefully be solving my misfire issues I will be replacing coil in cylinder 3 p1313 p1316 and spark plugs I would also like to remedy the oil leak into the bank by replacing gasket on valve stem lastly I am looking to replace the fuel filter. My question is are there video or pic guides for these repairs in one place for easy reference? Are the repairs going to fix the issue of the misfire bouncing while idling? New to the forum so thank in advance for any help.... Jim

If you have a '99 XJ8, then you would be better off posting in the X308 forum as that is the one for your model. The X350 has basically the same engine, but there will be differences.

for coil pack installation and removal its pretty simple looking at the engine all assembled you will see a cover on both banks bolted on by 6-7mm bolts, remove those bults pull that cover off, then you will have access to those coil pack

once you have that cover off, you will then see you 4 coil packs on each bank each coil pack is held on by 2-7mm bolts, and a harness plug connected to each plug, remove those 2 bolts and harness plug, once plug is unbolted twist clockwise, and counter-clockwise to break seal then pull out.

once pulled out you can see the spark plug grab a 3/8" ratchet and 6" extension connected to a 5/8" Spark plug or deep well socket,

as for the fuel filter Release the fuel pressure. Raise and support the vehicle.
Disconnect the fuel filter to fuel injection supply manifold fuel line.
Disconnect the fuel tank to fuel filter fuel line.
Remove the fuel filter and bracket.
Observe the direction of the fuel filter fuel flow arrow.
Remove the fuel filter. Make sure the fuel filter fuel flow arrow is correctly positioned.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.Tighten to 4 Nm. Tighten to 4 Nm.

for valve stem gaskets i coulnt find much info on JTIS but have a look at this image, you will be looking at #2 from what i can see is, for the valve stems to be removed, you will need to remove the whole valve cover then pull out the valve stem seals from the cover itself and install the new ones, but then you will need a new valve cover gasket

hope these pics are helpful- Cheers

Those are the spark plug seals, not the valve stem seals. That is a much bigger project requiring removal of the camshafts.

Yup! To change valve stem seals, you need to get the cams out. That's a big job and it involves the timing and special tools (search the forum and you'll find it).
The good news is,.....once you got the cams out, it's very easy to replace ALL timing chain components, and make your engine "bullet proof". It's not complicated to time the engine right, the only problem is getting the right tools, and the directions are available on this forum.

I'm doing some cylinder head work including valve stem oil seals soon, you need an oil seal puller tool along with the special engine tools, proper surgery this job. Search and read are your friends try and find the engine course pdf posted by motorcarman essential.
