Default '99 XJR Power Lock Problem

Just yesterday the power locks on my 1999 XJR have been giving me problems. The key fob will unlock the trunk, activate the security system, activate the lights but will not unlock the doors. I can hear the clicking but the doors will not unlock. I can unlock the drivers door with the key but (if I remember correctly), I can't turn the key again to get all the doors to unlock. Also, the doors will lock by themselves once past a few miles an hour in drive and they don't do that anymore either. If someone can please help I would appreciate it, I'm killing myself now trying to climb over seats to unlock my rear passenger door to put my daughter in her carseat. I've check a bunch of fuses but, 1. Don't know which one is associated with the locks and 2. have only found fuses under the hood and bonet.

Default RE: '99 XJR Power Lock Problem

Gentleman,

Disregard my previous question. After about an hour searching the internet (http://uk-car.justanswer.com/questio...ral-door-lock)and 1/2 an hour searching for the passenger side interior fuse box (located beneath the rear passenger seat behind a plastic panel that sits right behind where your heals would be) the 15A Fuse was fried. The website above had a question regarding an XJ8 with the same problem. So, if anyone ever has a problem with their central locking system, send me an e-mail and I can probably help though I'm no expert.....

Hi Have a 2000 XJ8 all the remotes and door locks work fine except the rear two doors will not lock or open with remote or key in door but work fine manually but would like to fix it . I am told there are separate solenoids in each door .Have checked fuses seem fine .Any ideas greatly appreciated

G'day Nigel,
I had a similar problem about six years ago with all systems working except the locks in both rear doors.
This was put down to lack of use and after removing door cards to gain access
to lock mechanisms including the servos for auto locking, all was well
after a good clean and lube session, including undoing connectors and cleaning with electronic cleaner spray....reassemble and all was well again))

Hi Xjay8
Thanks very much will follow your instructions .The car has done very few miles and very little use in the last few years so your reasoning is very logical

Anyone know how to STOP the doors from automatically locking when car reaches 15 mph??? I can NOT STAND this "you need our protection" and getting tired of having to do it manually by dashboard switch. Thanks.
