yep sounds like a broken chain basically it's the seconday chain that breaks,.. which controls valve timing.. your basically getting no compression and no opening of intake and exhaust valves..

I just had one that blew a hole through top of cam cover. Unbolted cam and cylinder leakage test performed. Passed. Did all chains and tensioners and ran like new.
Will post pic of hole later.

yeah most of the time ..it just needs new chains and sprockets and tensioners .. no new engine needed.. occasional valve..

It's a funny thing about this failure... I've read of many others that didn't suffer valve damage. I have an AJ26 that bent a pair of A bank exhaust valves, and two AJ27's that both have destroyed B bank heads and pistons.

the last aj27 i had only needed a single seconday chain nothing else.. but i still put a full set of new chains on.. must be when it brakes.. on start or WOT or shutting engine off

Every word of that is for sure. Have you sleeved any blocks? There's also an outfit in Minn. that sprays liners for NASCAR, I'd love to find out if anyone has experience with that route.

Yep genius, I think I'm going to send them one. They're quoting $1500 total to do a block. I don't know what AutoSports gets to do sleeves, butthe machine shop I usewould have trouble doing it for less than that.

Nice to finally find a forum that has some pros on board!
