Default 99 XJR weird electrical problem?

whats up guys, I'm a proud and recent owner of a 99 xjr which has been one of my dream cars since a kid. Loving it so far with one exception I cant figure out...all my power windows work except the drivers side, and the sunroof will open but close by itself in about 10 seconds. I dont know if its a wiring issue or maybe the bcm? I tried the hard reset which fixes the problem for about two days or so and then it goes back to not working. how am I supposed to hollar at babes ridin around in my babe if my damn window wont roll down?!?! helpa brother out, thanks in advance!

This is not part of the norm. I am attaching a oneline for the car that might help you trace the problem down. I hope it helps.

Look at Fig 15.1

thanks gus...have you ever heard of this type of problem? or have any other suggestions? Hoping the info you gave me will help troubleshoot the issue but still not sure where to start.

First check the integrity of the battery in your car then I would check the wiring loom related to the switches and check all the grounding points. Failing batteries have caused many problems and it would do no harm in checking it. No I have not heard of this problem before.

Checked everything, all is looking good which is somewhat aggravating. I'm thinking its the BPM but am nervous of switching it out in concern of potentially causing more troubles. Am I right in thinking this could make things worse?

I think you have two problems and if it were me I would look at the one window that is not working and see if you can find out why. I would first begin looking at the drivers door switch.

sorry for the late reply...switches look good so to be honest im not sure what the problem is. The hard reset temporarily fixes the problem for about 2-3 days, guess the trouble shooting continues. Thanks for your help fellas

hey there, i had this same problem. figuring out these electrical gremlins can drive you mad. i replaced the battery and it made no difference. pulling the LH door ecu fuse and re-installing will reset it so you don't have to do a hard reset every time (Lt hand heelboard fuse box #15). i've chased so many electrical problems in my 98 and been successful, but this is the easiest "fix" i have for this. your good for 2 days to 2 months depending on how your Jag feels that day. otherwise you'll replace every part and wire in the system and possibly get nowhere. i think its tripped by a weakened power window motor but i'm not gonna replace till its absolutely kaput!! sorry its not a perfect reply, but it works. bri

yeah I checked the fuses and none of them looked blown. Originally thats what it seemed like to me though, that there is a short somewhere. As annoying as it is I'm not going to get into redoing the wiring and all that because that can turn into a nightmare from past experiences. I'd rather want to reset it every other day than get into that mess. So you successfully fixed this problem? and was the driver and sunroof on the fritz as I stated my problem was?

1.CHECK THE BATTERY, MUST BE OVER 12.5V.

2.DO A HARD RESET.

Hope this helps!

It is no good just looking at the fuses. These fuses can look ok but still be blown.
You need to check them with a meter.

The same goes for the switches, check them for correct operation with a meter. The switch could be sticking.

Get into the drivers door and check the connections on the drivers door module. The same goes for the BPM, check the connectors.

Hope this helps,
