Default Adding rear center console

I have 1998 XJ8L (34k) which I just acquired. Before I sell my 2003 XJ8 Vanden Plas (80k), I'd like to know if it's possible to install a center console in the rear, just like Vanden Plas has it. I'd love to have it.

Thank you for your help.

Simple answer: Yes on the Long Wheel Base.

The bolt holes should be under the carpet on all Long Wheel Base cars, might not be easy to exactly locate them.
Taking some measurements from the VDP might help.
The bolts on the console are under the wood, it lifts out.

I have seen them on SWB cars.

This is from an '01 XJR (which would be a swb model) with the rear seat heaters.

I was able to complete it today. Here's the result.

However, I need to purchase the metal pieces you see in the 2nd photo for another car. Any idea how I can even find an item numbers?

That McDonald’s arches on the second photo is identical to your bracket that holds the transmission oil cooler lines firmly against the engine block on the left hand side just behind the A/C compressor. Honestly, your best bet is to get one from a junkyard XJ or XK. Those threaded clips you can get at ACE Hardware in the fasteners isle along with the screws to go with them.

Bringing this back up. I'd like to add this to my 99 xjr. Does anyone know if these little stanchions the speed clips slide into are on my model?
Like to know before hacking up the carpet.

Thanks

They are probably there, you can normally feel these things through the carpet if you push around in the general area. Alternatively you could get a borescope and feed it in from the heel board to see.

On the R it's held onto the forward centre console with double sided tape.

I lifted up the rear bench and took a look under the tunnel carpet with a borescope. Looks like I do have the raised stanchions so I ordered a console.

Yes, they’re present. At least they are in my 98 XJR. I put one in my car too, no issues.

Easy. Few cuts of the carpet with a utility knife and 2 speed nuts and its in. Easy job and looks factory
