I'm interested in buying a very well maintained 2002 XJR from Maine. It has 102K mostly highway miles (Florida and back).

The car looks superb in and out. I wonder what kind of trouble spots I should be looking for in an XJR with over 100K? What about rust? I've never seen rust on any XJR of this vintage. Do they have any known trouble spots?

It may be a good one.

Have it checked by a mechanic that knows Jaguars.

 

I have a 2001 xjr originally from Florida, it has no rust anywhere on the car and about 70k miles on it. My two cents, look for hesitation under hard acceleration (on a right hand turn, hit the gas and see if you notice hesitation as well). Also note any fuel order smells. Note any 'thumping' noise when going over small bumps (lower windows). This likely could be the upper shock tower bushings going out. There is a kit available on the net which I used (rather than replace the entire top tower) and was only like $60 or so for the kit which worked perfectly.

That is about all I know on that model of car so far
