Default aj26 maf to aj27 maf

So addicted2boost has let me know that he's made this swap and was very generous on providing the wiring swap necessary to make the car run.

I'm wondering if anyone has taken a look at this mod, as it seems the flow of the 27 maf would be far better than the 26.

My car runs great on the 26 maf, but I can't help but think you could pick up some power by reducing the intake restriction.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks!

Yeah, not too many AJ26’s running around anymore and even fewer of them are performance enhanced much. I did it primarily to see if it would resolve a running rich code from a bad(?) MAF. Unfortunately it didn’t but, I’m still keeping it in her car. The only other thing I thought about doing before continuing on was to upgrade to a smaller blower pulley 😂 just to see if it would help out with the running rich. It’s likely that it’s either injectors or ECU related. She drives that car like an old lady. When we went and got a new battery for it yesterday, I got on it hard and a fair amount of black smoke (carbon) came out of the exhaust followed by spark knock with 93 octane.

I agree xalty, the Pro M is a nice addition with the carbon fiber air intake tube like on my car. However, if I had known that Maxbore wasn’t able to bore our throttle bodies anymore (as of about 2019), I would’ve gone with the 80mm maf instead of the 92mm. The best I could do now is get my TB and elbow ported which probably wouldn’t add a very noticeable deal of air flow.

Speaking of Pro M, I seem to recall a conversation on here about a year ago where a member and someone at Pro M got into a bit of a heated argument and PM said they’ll never make/calibrate one of their MAF’s for our Jags again. Correct me if I’m wrong but, that’s what I seem to recall.

So as i was replacing my crank pulley, i noticed my maf flange was majorly cracked. I installed an aj27 maf after changing the pin locations. Car runs beautiful...no issues whatsoever. Thanks addicted2boost.

Good deal. The only downfall to the AJ27/S MAF is that you have to clean the resistors up inside that little tube from time to time. I’ve used brake cleaner with compressed air with my cars and customers cars with no issues whatsoever. You did get a MAF specifically for the S/C engine right?? It’ll have that miniature volcano 🤣 on top of the MAF.

I did yes, says s/c on it and has i think the "bb" at the end of its part number. Double checked all that

Hey guys I figured I would bring this thread back up to make this information a little easier to find via search.

Addicted2boost, would you mind sharing the modification to the pins that will allow you to run the later style AJ27 MAF on the AJ26? The photos appear to show a pretty stark difference in how much the sensor itself obstructs the airflow.

The AJ26 and AJ27 electrical guides show the pin numbering differences.

Hi, has anyone progressed with this? due to the pin outs and positioning it makes it a little complicated to understand.

What might be a way forward is to put the colour combination and what was found to be the working swap from the old obstructed MAF to the more modern design.

For instance mine is (main colour first)

White-blue (lead at end going toward engine air flow)
Green - yellow
Blue - pink (or purple..)
Black
Black yellow. (lead nearest route into maf of air flow)

Gold pin being on green - yellow.

What should that swap be?

Hope not too basic.. or confusing!

Look at the two black wires very close as the two colored bands are very similar. One seems yellow while the other looks lime colored. You may have to take the black corrugated wire cover off the harness and look further down the wires to get an accurate color of those two bands.

Here is the correct wiring:

Thanks guys! I had the exact some question. It's not a Pro-M or truly larger unit, but it's got to be a significant improvement over the early models.

Anyone know how to get the pins out of the connector? They seem to be pretty stuck in there.. removed the white plastic that is under in the connector but after that it got to a case of potentially causing an issue with the pins.. anyone done it successfully?
