Another Long Trip in the XJ8
I just got back from my second long trip in the XJ8 since I got the car about 4 months ago. I drove from S. Fla. to Wisconsin and back and while there I did a fair amount of driving, including going on a backpacking trip in the Porcupine Mountains in the U.P. of Michigan.
This car is amazing! I now have about 76k on the ODO and couldn't be happier with the way it performs. Since the car is about 10 years old, I give it a fair amount of TLC, but no more than any car of this age.
The only issues that I ran into were (1) the ABS light and the accompaning warnings came on twice but cleared when the engine was restarted, and (2) just as I pulled into the driveway when I got back yesterday I noticed a message that said something about checking the gas cap, but I turned the engine off just as I noticed it and when I restarted the engine it was gone.
This car is amazing on the highway -- great pickup/passing ability and the softest, smoothest ride of ANY car I've ever owned (and that's been a lot of cars but nothing as nice as a Jaguar). The lack of driver's fatigue at the end of a two day 1600 mile trip is quite remarkable.
Just wanted to post my positive feelings about my car.

This is me hamming it up a bit while putting on my hiking boots. I left the car parked here for four days while I traipsed through the woods with my son!

Two of my favorite things: driving my Jag and backpacking. I do worry, however, about leaving my car parked for days at a time at an unattended trail head!
Thanks for the positive review of the X308. I've got over double those miles on my '01 VDP and it is still a pleasure to drive. It's even more comfortable to me than my wife's '05 XJ8L, although they both make excellent "road trip" cars.
I suspect you know the deal with the ABS/TRAC warning: sensors or module. I'm facing the same intermittent warnings. After cleaning the sensors and reading the ABS codes I'm left believing it's the module. I picked up the star socket off amazon, and will tackle the repair when I get the chance.
Nice packs you've got there! I don't know how many bags of golf clubs will fit in the trunk, but I know for a certainty that I can easily fit two packs, maybe three. That makes me a happy camper! =)

Only Rolls Royce can better the ride, the German cars are too harsh.
