Nothing to it, ordinary change as any other car.
Just know that there is a venting hose with a bracket on the backside of the battery.

Normally the holes on the battery are plugged, or you receive a plastic bag with a connector and the plug for the front side of the battery.

You will probably need the radio code, which you can obtain from a dealer if you don't have it.

An alternative is to connect another battery to one of the bulkhead positive terminals and ground using jumper cables. But don't start the engine while those cables are connected.

There are no radio codes on 2001 US models.

Pic below is where the battery vent is located. Second pic is where it exits under the car. Your may not have it, they were typically discarded when the battery was replaced by anyone other than the dealer.

If that is the case you may have to fabricate one out of 1/4" clear tubing.

Most replacement batteries do not come with the vent kit unless you ask for it. It consists of a couple of plugs, L shaped fitting for the plastic tube and the tube itself.

Make sure you install the vent, otherwise all your (mostly hydrogen, boom!) gas and battery acid gets vented near the battery onto the trunk floor. (Boot)

Takeo is in France, so it's unlikely he has a US version car and may need a radio code.

Oops, I missed his location.

Did the EU still require radio codes in 2001? I am not sure.

I can tell you from traveling in Europe in September with other exotic car owners that Europeans are victims of theft of vehicle parts a lot more than we are. They even put security type screws on some exterior trim items, especially on exotics, to deter theft.

Their secure parking lots look like US prisons, complete with concertina wire on the top!

Just plug it in and leave it to charge, I've never heard of any computer problems occurring as a result of charging a battery. It's a very simple process, no need to overcomplicate it.

Vector: You're quite correct, theft from vehicles is a major issue in Europe. Only it's shifted from car parts to entire cars being stolen for parts. There are owners of certain classic Ford Escort and Capri models who are terrified to leave their house for fear of theft of their cars. At shows criminals are sticking home made trackers underneath cars to find out where they're kept to steal at a later date. Land Rover Defenders are hot cars, often stolen, stripped and parts being sold on within just 12 hours of being stolen.

Yes but my new battery has the vent on the wrong side of the battery, so i will have to lengthen the existing vent hose. Piece of cake.

Regds,

Takeo.

PS. 95 Amp battery cost me EUR 119 btw. Good price.

You can usually swap the vent from one side to the other if you have the correct parts.

+1
By way of example my battery has 2 vent holes so I left one plugged and put vent tube in the other.
