What are the symptoms of the problem?

Most systems are protected but you can overcome any protection.

The ECM holds the VIN data.

Please post a picture of Elroy!

OK check engine light ,fail safe engine ,amber light on ABS on , Brake on, Incorrect part fitted , trans in fail safe and Instruments do not work , I have changed many parts as I have a parts car , except the ECU for engine as the code is wrong for the ones I have , Question , I should be able to change any other module except ECU as long as they have the exact part # is that correct and if I purchase another correct ECU why would the VIN matter if no other modules store it ??

I don't understand why you've started a second thread for the same problem.

a) you need to describe in great excruciating detail what you mean by "hooking up the battery wrong"

b) put all the original modules back and try a hard reset, unless of course you know a particular module is damaged

use line breaks.

we did all that and a hard Reset over and over ,bought the car with a no start issue ,original problem with car was water in gas tank, found the cause for that so we drained the tank replaced the fuel pump , removed schrader valve on engine as we knew the line was full of water as well

, my buddy turned on the key and used the battery terminal to cycle the fuel pump and pump out the water , he would touch the Battery terminal over and over to cycle the pump

, replaced valve and started engine , runs fine ,but all those problems showed up , then he told me how he had cleared the lines , Then I read about how that was a Bad thing and my question was what does it damage Thank You

Each module replaced with a hard restart that showed no change was put back original , body module ,trans, instrument cluster, so far , I feel if I could get the Gauges to work the problem would go away dont have correct engine ecm I have 2 with the wrong part # not tried them, to test with Thank You

'JUMPING-THE-RELAY' is the better way to run the pump continuously without starting the engine.

As I stated in the other thread, You will need to interrogate ALL the modules to see if any have a DTC or has NO-COMMUNICATION. (damaged?)

A low battery will cause many electrical issues. Also, grounds and power points that are not making good contact will do the same. This is especially possible with a car that has been sitting for a while. There are many posts in the archives of people who have chased problems and expected the worst when the problem was a dodgy ground, power connection or a low battery.
