Daimler and Vanden Plas are the same car. VDP is used the USA and Daimler in other countries.
They are the most luxurious cars in the Jaguar range

But i've seen XJRs and even XJ8s, which are equipped better, than VDP or Daimler

You're right. I have a '99 VDP and it does not have heated seats. I've seen other XJ8's and R's that does. even older years. I thought VDP's were supposed to be top of the line.

It depends on the first owner's wishes, most of the things mentioned are 'optional extras' and so require a box ticked on purchase so the car's built to that spec. Look for the gadgets you need when buying or retrofit them, they're generally plug and play items, powerfold mirrors, heated seats, auto lights/wipers, heated front screen, sat nave/phone etc etc.......even the Queen of England had to tick some boxes on her's.

Sure. But it's not that easy to retrofit a rain sensitive wipers or premium sound system. Some of the options are not plug-n-prey

The rain sensor is not too great on my VDP. Its too sensitive 95% of the time during light rain despite setting the sensitivity to its lowest.

The Alpine premium audio sounds pretty good. I haven't heard to regular system though.

Mine was too sensitive too. I've replaced a gel pad under the sensor and now it works fine.
Regular system sounds not so good. Desipte the JBL speakers i feel a lack of bass (since there's no subwoofer).

If you retro-fit power fold mirrors what switch / activity makes them fold?

And these can be retro-fitted to a 2002? I don't remember ever seeing these but I sure like the sound of this upgrade!

IIRC you'll need to replace a mirrors, add 2 relays and do some programming with IDS.

Ooops. I was talking about auto folding mirrors

Yes they can
the side selector switch need to be in the center position and then with the other switch pressing toward you will fold the mirror and pressing toward the front of the car will unfold
