Default Best Year and Durability

Hi, I am looking to purchase a VDP and would like to find what you might to have to offer as the best year to look into purchasing from 2002 to 2009 and how many miles might they last ??

Thanks,
Ken in WV By Golly

Major difference between pre 2004 and 2004 where major changes were made. Body increased in size a bit and went Aluminum so cut weight quiet a bit.

Also navigation was introduced in the head unit about 2004. Some early 2004s did not have it.

Also engine went to 4.2 liters in 2004. Not sure if it was available pre 2004.

Another change occurred in 2006 with significant electrical upgrades.

I bought my 2005 XJR about 5 years ago when it had 99,000 miles on it.

Apart from an alternator issue I have had no trouble with it in 10,000 miles that I have put on it so far.

I do all my own maintenance.

Others will post more I am sure.

Depends on the intended use. For a weekend toy to add to the collection, I'd seek out the lowest mileage 2003 I could find in the best shape I could find. Still the classic Lawson era design universally recognized by gearheads and lay people alike as the quintessential Jaguar saloon, but by the last year of the x308, they had finally worked out nearly all the "bugs". I think you could expect to buy one at say 50K miles like your XKR and not have any major issues for another 50K. But just remember that a whole lot of minor issues will be age-related as the plastics deteriorate and metals corrode and 17 is a senior citizen in car-years. If I were going to daily drive it, I'd lean toward the X358, the newest year model with the lowest mileage I could find, a nice looking middle-aged automobile who wouldn't mind being seen with a middle-aged, bald-headed man who has also put on a little bit of a spread.
