big problem
hey, i not to long bought a 1998 xj8.. it was running perfect. got hit in front and needed the front frame to be pulled a little.. it drove up on the frame machine and when was done it did not want to start... it would not let me hook the obd2 scanner up, it is saying bad connection. also it is giving me codes no the dask. saying electrical fault transmission fault, wrong part fault, and something start fault... anyone had this prob before or any ideas? i checked the two fuses in the back by the battery.. when i turn the key nothing happenes i hear a click on the relay in the back... thank you..
Lots of opportunity there!
Let's get rid of the usual suspects. Has the car sat and the battery is low on charge? 12.6v, turn on the lights and what does it read? Should be over 12v
Check all the power connections, especially the two large B+ posts beside each under hood fuse panel.
Make sure all the relays in the front fuse panels are properly seated. When my car was hit a couple were completely ejected.
If that doesn't help, come back and we will guess some more.

How long after you dropped the car off did they work on it and after the work was completed when did you go to pick it up? If the car was running just fine when you dropped it off ask them if they were able to start it to bring it into the shop and again to take it out?
Often your OBD codes become confusing when your battery is low and this is often caused by the continued effort of getting the car started. As for the codes I would jot them down and after the battery is replaced clear them and then start from scratch. Before you run the battery down again you need to check for fuel and spark. Cylinder washing is another cause of no-start; however, check for the fuel and spark first and ask what took place when they had the car.

Another JAG or just another car? Some Jaguars can be a bit finniky about which scanners they want to talk to and, sometimes, the scanner itself causes a fault code to be generated.
