Default Big trouble....need help...1999 XJR ..ENGINE FAILURE??

Well only 350 miles on my recent replaced angine....was running like new if not better with larger lower pulley...

took up to 120 mph and it pulled clean...tried it again and began losing power....

nothing ever overheated..ran with power loss and some surging all the way ome...car runs but something is not right...so shut down until I can sort out for now...

open hood and oil on top of supercharger and around engine...open air filter to look and yes oil in the air box..

not good.

small puddle of oil ...about a cup or so under engine in the morning...

what is the worst that happened here..? not sure...not looking good...

piston ring broke ? are these engines that fragile....was built for 150 plus..I only took to 120 or so twice back to back and bang....thought I was being nice to it...

enguine is from a salvage yard with claimed 24,000 miles but so no telling abuse history or how long it sat...

any theories? engine is junk?

hope salvage yard will honor 3 year warranty on parts and labor...I did nothing to deserve this I do not believe.....

never overheated so hoping it can be repaired..where would the salvage yard gat a low milage engine to replace anyways if I needed one...not sure what to do yet...

not fun...

Thanks!!

WELL OIL IN THE AIR BOX IS NEVER GOOD AS JUST A SIGN OF PLUGGED PART LOAD BREATHER (NOT YOUR CASE) AND EXCESSIVE OIL BLOWBY PAST RINGS. THIS IS ONE REASON I JUST DONT INSTALL RECYCLED ENGINES OR TRANS, TOO MANY TIMES IVE DONE IT IN THE PAST ONLY TO HAVE THEM NEVER LEAVE THE SHOP, OR SHORTLY RETURN, JUST TOO BIG A CRAP SHOOT

I am only guessing but it sounds like you have highcrankcase pressure. Have you checked compression on the salvage engine? Something might be pressurizing your sump and driving oil out all over the place. Check the compression...if good look for a blocked breather somewhere, engine swaps can have teething problems with sloppy reassembly.

That would be a mayor blessing if so....will be contacting mechanic soon....his last comments were he would not do another XJR engine swap again...

not looking forward to telling him anything..but I have to...but am ready for the worst....

well not ready...just not much I can do if the engine needs internal work or another swap..

this gets old after 3 months of waiting to get car back first time around and all the money spent....

thanks for responses...my health is relatively good...at least I have that....

will inform what comes out of this between my salvage yard honoring warranty ( if I need another engine ), my mechanic sick of working on this car (who may decline to handle it) and what is the real problem...not sure what is going to happen yet....fun fun fun...

a compression check is in order...

Thanks...
