apparently I blew a hole in my intake manifold when the secondary chain broke on a-bank. Is this common? Also need to know if the aj27 manifold is inter-changable with the aj26 and if so. what mods are needed.

 

The chain braking is common, if that is what you mean. From what I hear, a great many things can go wrong when a chain breaks.

the AJ27 engine has different VVT controls, different intake manifold bolt patterns, I believe a different flywheel and a few more. I believe if you get the complete AJ27, with the parts you havwe from your AJ 26, you can make itr work. See posts here and in the XK forum by AVOS. He apparenly has done an XJR swap, and notes what he thinks it takes for an XJ8. The XJR does not have VVT, so that makes the XJ8 more complicated because the cam sensor arrangement changed between AJ 26 and AJ 27.

 

Its not uncommon to blow a hole in the intake since when a chain breaks or the engine goes out of time, it can fire a cylinder with the intake valves open and combustion in the intake is never good
